...WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS THROUGH MONDAY...

.Deep moisture brought in by the strong trade winds will combine
with sub-freezing temperatures to produce periods of wintry
weather, including heavy snowfall, over the Big Island Summits.

...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 4
  inches and icy conditions. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Big Island Summits.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Snow, patchy black ice, and thick fog will make for 
  very dangerous driving conditions, with visibility near zero 
  at times. The road to the summit of Mauna Kea is closed, and 
  the campground at Mauna Loa is closed.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Summit personnel reported several inches of
  snowfall overnight, and snow drifts 4 feet and greater were
  preventing access to the observatories.  

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet,
and ice are expected or occurring. Any travel plans to the
summits should be postponed until the threat of winter weather
diminishes.
