...WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HALEAKALA SUMMIT...
...WINTER STORM WATCH FOR BIG ISLAND SUMMITS...

.Very cold air aloft will move over the islands, beginning 
tonight and continuing into Friday. Additionally, moisture is 
expected to occasionally spread to the elevations of the summits, 
with bouts of winter weather expected.

Haleakala Summit-

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM
HST FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Freezing rain mixed with periods of snow expected. Less
  than 1 inch of snow expected, with ice accumulations over 1/4
  inch.

* WHERE...Haleakala Summit.

* WHEN...Midnight to 6 AM Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A mix of wintry weather is expected early
  Wednesday, and then again on Thursday, making travel to 
  Haleakala Summit extremely dangerous. The National Park Service 
  reports that the road to the summit is closed and will remain 
  closed until the weather and road conditions improve. Travel 
  plans to the summit should be postponed. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of ice are
expected This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Periods of freezing rain and snow possible. Plan on
  difficult travel conditions. Total snow accumulations of up to 3
  inches are possible.

* WHERE...Big Island Summits.

* WHEN...From Wednesday morning through late Thursday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant reductions in visibility are 
  possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant
snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact the summits.
Anyone planning travel to the summits, including hikers and
campers, should monitor the latest forecasts and consider
postponing their trip until improved weather returns.
