mix of wintry weather to the Big Island summits today.

...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS
EVENING...

* LOCATION...Big Island summits and upper slopes.

* HAZARD TYPE...Heavy snow, blowing snow, freezing rain and cloud-
  to-surface lightning strikes. 

* ACCUMULATIONS...Additional snow and ice of 3 to 5 inches.

* TIMING...Through 6 PM today.

* IMPACTS...Icy roadways and poor visibility leading to the 
  closure of summit roads.

* WINDS...South 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

* VISIBILITIES...Near zero at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet,
and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible,
likely leading to the continued closure of the Mauna Kea summit 
road.
