...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY 
AFTERNOON FOR THE SUMMITS OF THE BIG ISLAND AND HALEAKALA...

.A broad upper level trough will move over the state and will
bring a prolonged period of very strong winds for the summits of
the Big Island and the summit of Haleakala this week. Winds could
stay very strong through the weekend.

* WHAT...For the Wind Advisory, west winds 25 to 45 mph with 
  localized gusts over 55 mph. For the High Wind Watch, 
  southwest winds 40 to 80 mph with localized gusts over 100 mph 
  possible.

* WHERE...Big Island Summits.

* WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, until 6 AM HST Tuesday. For the 
  High Wind Watch, from Tuesday morning through Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Winds this strong could make driving and walking 
  dangerous. The winds could forcefully open doors and damage 
  hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Watch for the summits means that strong and
potentially damaging winds in excess of 56 mph with frequent
gusts over 66 mph are expected but not yet occurring. Be prepared
for road-closures. Postpone travel to the summits until
conditions improve.
