.A strong high pressure system northeast of the state will keep
very windy trades blowing across the islands through at least
Thursday. The strongest winds will be over and downslope of the
mountains.

* WHERE...Big Island Summits.

* IMPACTS...Winds this strong can make driving and walking 
  difficult. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage the 
  hinges and slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

* WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* WHERE...Lanai, Kahoolawe, and portions of Maui, Oahu and the 
  Big Island. The strongest winds will be through gaps as well 
  as over and downslope of ridges. On Oahu this includes areas 
  over and downslope of the Koolau and Waianae ranges. On the 
  Big Island this includes areas over and downslope of the 
  Kohala mountains, as well as through the Saddle and around 
  South Point. On Maui this includes areas in and around Kahului 
  southward through Maalea Bay.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Winds this strong can down tents, knock down tree 
  branches, make it difficult to steer high profile vehicles, 
  and can cause power outages.
